which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited. Objective: High prevalence of human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-I) infection in the northeastern of Iran has been proven. However, there is no overall estimation of the infection in the country. This systematic review was conducted to make an accurate estimation of HTLV-I infection prevalence in the Iranian blood donors. Method: All cross-sectional studies which had reported the prevalence of HTLV-I infection in the Iranian blood donors in both English and Persian languages until August 2011 were adopted. The inclusion criteria were proper sampling methods, adequate sample size, and valid measurement methods. The overall prevalence rate was estimated using meta-analysis method as well as survey data analysis methods. Results: From 843 electronic searched citations, and 245 surveys found in gray litera-tures, 13 studies met the inclusion criteria. They were from seven provinces including

Evaluating the Frequency of Human T-Lymphotropic Virus Type 1 Infection in Iranian Population
Background: Human T-cell lymphotropic viruses 1 (HTLV1) is endemic in specific regions. We aimed to determine the prevalence of HTLV I infection among blood donors in southeast Iran. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted between April 2005 and March 2015. Sera were collected from blood donors and were tested for the presence of HTLV1 specific antibody using ELISA. Reactive sample...
متن کاملHTLV-1 Infection as a Serious Health Issue among Iranian Multi-Transfused Patients: Evidence from a Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Background: A high prevalence of human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-1) infection among general population in the northeast of Iran has been reported. Multi-transfused patients are known as ‘at-risk’ group for the infection. This systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to estimate the prevalence of HTLV-1 infection among Iranian multi-transfused patients. Materials and Meth...
متن کاملRole of HLA-G 14 bp Indel polymorphism on susceptibility to HTLV-1 infection in blood donors of Khorasan Razavi Blood Center
Abstract Background and Objectives The HLA-G antigen is a non-classical HLA class-I with limited polymorphism. Several studies have indicated the role of a 14 bp Indel polymorphism rs371194629 in the 3'-UTR region of the HLA-G in acquisition of HTLV-1 infection. In this study, we investigated the correlation between the genotypes of this polymorphism and HTLV-1 infection in blood donors of Khor...

Background: The human T-cell lymphotropic virus type I is the first retrovirus idenfied in humans. The virus has been associated with adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma, human T-lymphotropic virus type I, myelopathy/tropical spasc paraparesis, uveis, arthris, pulmonary lymphocyc alveolis, keratoconjuncvis sicca, and infecous dermas. Human T-lymphotropic virus type Iis endemic in Japan...
